We found that the information I already have is that of a DIY expert, there are many ideas that I alone can contribute to the site, and if it were to be a forum-like platform hopefully the users can contribute some DIY ideas as well. We are missing the skills to make it a buy and sell site though, what we don't know is how to get that portion up and running and we talked about whether or not it is even viable. So the logical next question she asked is how do we get this information? I could potentially look up tutorials online, or I came to the conclusion I might need to cut it out entirely.
Overall she and I shared very positive emotions over the subject of my site and she was very excited to see it through, she did have the hunch though that it might be difficult to upkeep the selling portion and that it wouldn't be my strong suit. We both felt that posting DIY's would give us the most positive interactions with my audience and would garner the most attention so I want to really focus on that aspect.
The biggest problem she saw was my buy/sell aspect, as I compared what I want to do with the site Depop, she asked what made my site any different? Why, when people have this already established site, would they choose me over them? I did not have an answer to this, and it made me rethink having that on my site in the first place. Another thing she warned me about was if it was blog style I would have to post constantly to keep my audience entertained, and that might be hard for one person to moderate my site, I may have to look into a team, or at least scaling back what I plan to do instead of posting weekly updates, maybe make them bi-weekly or feature other people.
We both thought that this site would be a great way to encourage more people to upcycle their clothing and teach more people about the low-waste movement, there would be a greater sense of community and hopefully people would spread the word about this site and continue to use it.
What could we do to make this site better? As well as having multiple people blog on the site maybe we could include pictures or videos as well where people could contribute more, I am a visual learner so this might help other people as well as myself. We also had the thought of maybe doing reviews of low-waste clothing sites or something similar. I came up with the idea to be sponsored by zero-waste companies for ad revenue to keep the site running but that seems far off in the future.
We decide the subject of my site was a forum/blog style website where people could post about their DIY and upcycle ideas for clothing so that they wouldn't have to buy new clothes as clothes went in and out of fashion. The goal is to make people more conscious about what they are wearing and what they consume, and our plan is to reach that by creating a community of people who share the same values and want to help the cause. We were able to stay on topic because this is a subject that both of us found interesting and want to expand upon.
After we went through all six hats I came to the realization I won't be able to have a buy/sell option on my site, but it's for the better as it took away from the focus of the site which was to help people work with what they already have. We decided that my strong suit was the DIY posting by my audience and I'm going to work mostly on creating a community where everyone can post, as well as having a featured DIY of the week and some blogging done by the moderator(me). In the end we took away one aspect but I feel like it made my core idea stronger.
I think I'm the green hat mostly because when we were discussing new ideas I took the prompt and ran with it, I wanted to add so many things some might consider it impractical, and I just kept coming up with new ideas and creative ways to add onto the project, I almost lost sight of my original idea.
