While I might not be big on superheros from the Marvel or DC universe, I am very well versed on She-Ra one of many princesses of power. In the land of Etheria there is an evil organization known as The Horde who are trying to dominate the world, She-Ra along with her princess friends fight to keep the people of Etheria safe with their magical powers.
In the newest reboot of the series She-Ra's origin story changes a bit, in the 80's there was a version of She-Ra who came about as a spin-off to the popular He-Man show, she was his long-lost twin destined to help him save Etheria from the Horde. In both versions She-Ra was not born with the knowledge of her power, but the main difference in the reboot is there is no man to show her her power within, she is able to discover it on her own.
Another shocking twist of the reboot is that originally, Adora is fighting for the Horde. Claiming they 'saved her' as an infant from the 'evil princesses' her life mission up until this point was to continue spreading the Horde's propaganda unbeknownst to herself. The metaphorical cloth from her eys is taken away from her when she meets Glimmer, a princess herself on a mission to find 'Old Ones' technology that is prophesized to help end the great war against the Horde. They both end up meeting over the Sword of Protection, which reacts to Adora being in the room, as they are being attacked by wildlife Adora grabs the sword and transforms into She-Ra for the first time, and thus a hero is born.
I love She-Ra because I feel like she is a great role model for women and young girls to feel empowered by, all of the heros in her show are princesses who fight fiercely and love deeply. I also appriecate that they didn't make her dependent on another hero like He-Man to make her origin she was able to find the hero within herself. Adora is also a very personable character and very human, easy to relate to as she has struggles like any other person which makes her easy to relate to.
